Since the internet was developed, it has grown into one of the largest ways to advertise, sell and buy services and merchandise. For all the advancements in the internet and computer technology, new business has been developed. The development of these new businesses has caused college courses and degrees to grow. One of the fastest growing areas in education and employment areas is that of Website Design.
The idea is for the search engines to choose your website to display when someone types in certain key words. The website must be attractive to look at, easy to read and easy to maneuver around in. It must include links to related information or web pages. The website should also be accessible to everyone looking for related information. You will learn all of these skills when you finish your web design courses online.
There are many design elements the website should include. Some of these include good visual design, thoughtful user interface, primary navigation, repeat navigation in the footer, meaningful content, a good "about" page, contact information, search area, sign-up or subscribe options, a sitemap, valid XHTML and CSS, cross browser capability and web optimized imagery. This seems like a lot, but you will learn all of these skills before you step into a position in this industry.
Many online web design courses include instruction and tools on choosing the correct typography, fonts and text for websites. Even though most writing software programs include a list of different fonts, and there are many of them, choosing a sans-serif font like Verdana is better than using a serif font like Times New Romans. The reason for this is that Verdana is clean and clear with no tails, wings or extensions, so the letters will not bleed into each other when viewed electronically.
Keeping the color scheme simple is your best choice. You will have covered the basics of color usage while attending school. There are basic colors that can be combined into different sub colors, tints and hues. Certain colors compliment others making them pleasing to look it. Choosing a color for a website is very important Pleasing choices that are easy to view will bring people back again. Loud, glaring and clashing colors can actually chase viewers away. The make the web page hard to look at and read.
You should have also taken a class in page layout. Web page layout is worked up along the same lines as printed page layout. The only difference is that something electronically viewed look different than it does if it is printed. Special programs will allow you to layout your page for web design. From there you will be able to adjust th typography, imagery, text and sequences.
When you have your page layout, have chosen the right imagery, animation, colors and arrangement, then it is time to concentrate on the content. You will want the content to relate to the images, photos, pictures or animation. You will also want it to be easy to read and understand. Give it little spice because you don't want it to be so boring the reader falls asleep while reading it. Some web masters will hire freelance writers to create good content for their sites.
